Discipline: Dance
Length: 15 minutes

About the Show:
Dancer/choreographer Sarah Gamblin collaborates with Fort Worth’s Hentai Improvising Orchestra to explore the physical performativity of live music via contemporary dance. Seeking to transcend genre by blurring the lines of on-stage physicality and HIO’s always surprising musicality, this 15 minute work draws creative energy from the image of the Aztec ritual of flinging slain enemies to fall forever: the ensemble rips open aural chasms while Gamblin dances through the eternal falling.
About the Artist:
Sarah Gamblin is an avid improviser and choreographer who develops dance making practices that deepen the connection between live performance and physical state making. Her choreography has been produced in Texas at the Fort Worth Dance Festival, the Out of the Loop Fringe Festival, The Fusebox Festival, Texas Woman's University, Dan's Silver Leaf and Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios and in Washington at the Seattle Festival of Dance and Improvisation, Northwest New Works Festival at On the Boards, and in New York City at 100 Grand and DIA Center for the Arts. Fort Worth’s Hentai Improvising Orchestra came together in mid-2009, taking members from two other ensembles, Yanari and PFFFFT! Initially a sprawling and amorphous aggregation, its lineup stabilized in March 2010 as three members: Matt Hickey, Terry Horn, and Ken Shimamoto. They use a variety of instruments – homemade, broken, toy and traditional, electric and acoustic – to spin their webs of sound.
